Remembering Grandpa

We were so sad to hear news that Bryan's grandpa, Allen Flint, passed away on October 28. He had a stroke when he was in 40s, and had been debilitated ever since (paralyzed in his right arm) -- but you'd never know it from his strong, happy spirit. The week he passed away, he fell and hit his head hard enough to cause bleeding on the brain which put him into a coma.

I really enjoyed getting to know Grandpa. I don't believe I ever saw him without a smile on his face, and he was always up for a laugh. I will always remember one day when he told me stories about his life for probably two hours straight. This was a unique, special experience because as a result of his stroke his speech was impaired, so most of the time he just listened. I could tell it was hard for him to talk, but I could also tell he enjoyed reminiscing. I am so glad to have that memory. It is sweet to think that he is free of his earthly body which had ailed him for so long.

Bryan looks a lot like Grandpa, and, in effect, so does Eleanore. We were happy that we had the opportunity to introduce her to him in April when we were in Utah.

We were glad to be able to make it to his funeral to remember him and support Bryan's mom and sweet Grandma. At the graveside service they did a military salute which was awesome, what a tribute to him. I think he would have been proud.
