The Fruits of Our Labor

When I wrote about my birthday in December I mentioned that we planted a garden in a small plot on the church property.

It has been fun to tend to our garden (especially since many of our friends and family live where the dirt was way too frozen to plant a garden). We planted tomatoes, broccoli, peppers, spinach, green onions and cauliflower. The last couple of weeks we've been enjoying the fruits of our labor. The broccoli and spinach is super yummy! Maybe our minds are playing tricks on us and we just think it tastes better because it came straight from the seeds we planted, or maybe it really does taste better, but either way it is good! We froze some of it so we've been able to enjoy it lots. However, who would've thunk? The year we plant a garden, Florida gets a freeze. We covered up the plants, but the tomatoes and peppers just didn't survive. The cauliflower didn't sprout too well either, but the onions have been great.

Monday night we went and cleaned out our garden plot and are ready to plant again. I think we'll try tomatoes again and maybe some beans; I'm not sure what else. It is nice to get outside, right now the evenings are so nice. They remind me of summer evenings in Idaho and Utah. We're trying to enjoy it as much as possible because it won't be long before it is miserably hot and humid.

Why is Bryan working in our garden in his church clothes? Well since it is at the church we'll often go and check on it after church (not to work in it on Sunday though ;)

Eleanore LOVES being outside. When we go to the garden she is in heaven, I think. She likes playing the dirt. And, although she doesn't like the texture of fresh vegetables, she has no problem with the taste or texture of dirt. We have to keep an eye on that one.

That's awsome! I have such a black thumb, next time you guys are up you'll have to plant one for me! I can't believe how good it looks.

I'm glad that some of your food survived the freeze. That's great that your church has that land for you to use too! Ahh, the perks of living in the south.... :)

That is so awesome, I really want a garden too. SOmeday, community plots are so great though. I seriously hardly recognize Eleanore. She is so grown up and her eyes are so killer! Miss you guys.
