Homemade Finger Paint

Here is the recipe for the homemade finger paint I mentioned a couple of posts ago. We've made it twice, and it makes a lot, but since it is so easy to make and so cheap I don't mind if the kids go crazy with it...last time we painted the sidewalk with it.

Ingredients:

  • tablespoons sugar
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • cups cold water
  • 1/4 cup clear liquid dish soap (I just used the green Dawn I had under the sink and it worked fine)
  • food coloring or food coloring paste

Directions:
  • Mix together sugar and cornstarch in a small pan, then slowly add cold water.
  • Cook over low heat, stirring until the mixture becomes a smooth; almost clear gel about 5-10 minutes
  • Allow the mixture to cool and then stir in the clear dishwashing liquid.
  • Scoop equal amounts of the mixture into containers and stir in food coloring or, for even more vibrant colors, use food-coloring paste.
