Workin' at the Car Wash

The weather here has been great...every day has seemed almost like a perfect summer day for the last couple of weeks. Too bad it isn't summer at all though. It is actually not even spring yet. We're enjoying this nice weather while it lasts because we know it is only a matter of weeks before it will be too miserable to spend much time outside.

So, Saturday we spent pretty much the whole day outside. I think we all needed a little vitamin D and Bryan and I some time away from our laptops/work, so it was a great day!

We had to get new tires on our vehicle in the morning (blah!) so we made the most of the waiting time and walked across the street and got an ice cream. After we were finished there we went and replanted our garden. This time we planted tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, peas, peppers and onions. Hopefully in about 45 days we'll be munching on some fresh veggies. While at the church we tried flying a kite, we got Elmo to fly high for a little while but then the breeze died down. That's okay, Eleanore was just as happy (or happier) sitting in our garden plot throwing dirt in the air like confetti.

Before heading home we stopped a little farm about two miles from our house that we'd never been to before. I wish we'd discovered it sooner -- it had everything fresh and for great prices.

Once we were home we decided to rinse the dirt from the garden off ourselves by washing our cars since it was such a nice day. This was a fun experience. Eleanore seemed so big and fun, all of the sudden like a little kid instead of a baby. She loved being sprayed with the hose and tried helping scrub with the sponge. I loved spending the day together with my little family.

But that was before the drama started. Bryan is currently the ward mission leader in our ward, and there was a baptism scheduled for that night. So after we washed the cars, we all booked it into the house to eat dinner and get showers before running to the church for the baptism. About two hours earlier Bryan had called to confirm with the missionaries that they were filling the font and they said they were already at the church so no worries. Well when we got to the church we found out that we should have worried. After starting the water running in the font, the missionaries decided to go get a bite to eat. By the time they returned (an hour and half later) the font had overflown (that is enough time for the font to fill twice) and flooded the church all the way down the hall to the foyer. Needless to say, we were shocked. Our bishop was out of town on business, so that left Bryan responsible for getting the mess taken care of before Sunday meetings. He, the Elder's Quorum president, two other guys and the Elders were at the church until midnight sucking up water with shop vacs. They left fans running all night and by morning the carpet was actually fairly dry, and on Monday the regional maintenance guy for the church came and took over. What a mess! We are glad it didn't turn out worse. We'll take this an important reminder that while the missionaries are great they are still 19-year-old BOYS...that need supervision.

It's so fun to have nice weather! We had 2 days of it and now it's dreary and cold again. What a mess at the church! That is crazy!

I'm jealous of your great weather. We are hoping to have jacket weather soon. You got some cute pics of Eleanore washing to car too.

That would have been crazy walking in to a flooded church. That's good that it didn't do too much damage.

Man, what started out to be an awesome family afternoon, quickly turned out to be a midnight mess! But it sounds like Bryan did the right thing, and luckily he had help too.
Goodness gracious, El looks adorable helping you guys wash your car -- she is a big girl! I am excited too to see you guys this summer!
Hugs and kisses to El!

What a cute girl, this can be so much fun. Sorry about the font. Missionaries used to seem so mature and old, you are totally right, 19 year old kids that need supervision. At least you got a good story out of it.

I love that picture of Eleanore with the sponge! She does look grown up & like she knows what she's supposed to be doing or something. One thing I'm learning the longer I'm a mom is that every stage just keeps getting funner! I'm sad to see your babies grow, but at the same time it's always so much fun to move into "the next thing". The work gets less & the fun gets more!

It is hard to believe you are out washing your car (or Evelyn is washing the car!) in such great weather. We just woke up to a couple inches of snow and it's still coming down! What a story about the Elders! Hopefully they'll remember this one!

Seriously, sometimes I can't believe we let two 19 year old boys spread the gospel together! What a mess. Hopefully it's a funny story by now. Eleanore looks so grown up and cute.

I am so jealous of the nice weather we had four inches of snow when I woke up this morning (luckily it has all melted again). Eleanore really does look like a big girl now -but she is such a cute girl! Great pictures! The story about the church was sad and somewhat funny all at the same time -but I am glad that you guys were able to take over and help to get it all cleaned up. Looks like all is going well -love reading your blog!
