Musings of a mother

Yesterday I walked in to Church with a smile on my face. The morning had gone well and my three little darlings were all looking cute in their Easter dresses (nothing better than listening to the living Prophet next week on Easter, but I am disappointed we won't be GOING to church on Easter and won't be able to put the girls in their Easter dresses. Well...I mean, we COULD go to the church and watch the satellite broadcast of conference, but I am not THAT disappointed. I think we'll watch it in our Easter sweats).

Back to the point, I was feeling good as we walked into church, almost on time (during the opening hymn). After sacrament meeting was over the lady in front of me turned around and said "Emily, you really seem to have it together." I laughed. Out loud. Boy did I fool her. I almost started explaining how far from the truth that was, but ended my laugh with a simple "Thanks," and a smile.

What I could have said was: "Do you want to know why I am wearing thick black tights when it is 80 degrees outside? That is because I only had time to shave one leg last night (which was the first time I got to start shaving my legs in over a week) before my babies were beckoning my attention." Or, I could have instructed her to go and ask my husband how together I am. He was the one who got the phone call when I was losing it Friday morning after changing five messy diapers (two of which were blowouts that required baths), excavating raisins from Eleanore's nostrils, getting spit up on twice and watching Eleanore turn an entire bowl of Lucky Charms and milk upside down after saying "Look Mommy!" while I sat on the couch nursing two babies at the same time -- all within one hour.

Laugh out loud. It is easier than getting stressed or explaining. I've tried it both ways.

So, why am I sitting here blogging? I've got another leg to shave. :)

Oh Emers, I know that was a stressful morning for you, but I'm with that lady... you do seem to have it together. See, all those things that happened were out of your control... they weren't you... they just happened- but YOU handled all of it- in 1 hour. Now that's together. At my house, the lucky charms would have likely sat until evening, the shirt would have smelled like spit-up all day, and I definitely wouldn't be nursing 2 babies at one time :). I have a lot to look up to in my little sister.

PS- I want to see pictures of the Easter dresses and the babies' sling :). That is, after you shave your other leg :).

At least you can smile and laugh about it all. That is what is important.

ha ha ha I love it! That made me laugh. I could just picture all that happening. Too funny. I hope your days (and leg) will be smoother in the future. You do seem as though you always have it all pulled together though. I want to see the dresses too when you get pics!

That is so funny. I feel a part of your pain often! The nice thing is when you do get those moments where you look to have it all together. Soon you have more of those than of the craziness.

Loved the post! It is nice to read that other people have crazy times too.

But, you know what. I bet you do have it all together. Just the fact that you had 3 new Easter dresses a week before Easter is an accomplishment! :)

Em,

Way to go on telling the lady 'thank you' instead of going into details as to why you "think" you don't have it all together! Don't be so hard on yourself. Keep saying 'thank you' as more people compliment you.
I agree with Sarah's comment that the things that happened in one hour where all out of your control.
Please post some pics of your girls in their Easter dresses. We love you all.

And just when I thought no one changed more dirty diapers in an hour than I do!! Woooh, that makes me feel good. Another soccer mom told me the other day that cloth diapering just gets a bad rap & it's really not so bad..I should try it. Me & Ryan both about gagged & thought, as expensive as diapers are....they are totally worth saving any sanity left in us.

I often have weeks when pants are a must the WHOLE wk. long. Florida summer is coming, oh no--and to shave past the knee for a swimsuit, hmmm, how will that ever happen?

You are a talented mom & when your kids turn 5 & you're ready for a p.t. job, you can be a stand-by juggler for the traveling circus...lots of work experience in performing great juggling acts!

Emily
You are a trooper, after reading what happened my heart goes out to you. My mission President told me once when I had to conduct a meeting with President Monson, Hugh B. Brown and Sterling W Sill on the stand that " and this too shall pass" nothing stay's the same forever. Bryan and the girls are blessed because you are in their lives. You are in our thoughts and prayers and enjoy the time because it will PASS soon enough and you will be making plans for the girls weddings!!!
We Love you

ditto to what everyone said, I always repeat this line to myself, I can't even remember who said it in a conference talk a couple of years ago, but she was speaking about motherhood and said. "Your hands are full now, but your heart will be full later."
You are an awesome mom, and shaving is highly overrated :)
